Frequently Asked Questions

About GitSquid — the fast, affordable Git GUI client

What is GitSquid?

GitSquid is a cross-platform desktop Git GUI client for macOS, Windows, and Linux. It provides a visual interface for Git operations including a commit graph, staging area, diff viewer, integrated terminal, and integrations with GitHub, GitLab, and BitBucket.

Is GitSquid free?

Yes. GitSquid has a free tier that includes all core Git operations, private repository support, a diff viewer, conflict resolution, an integrated terminal, and one provider integration. You can use it day-to-day without paying.

How much does GitSquid Pro cost?

GitSquid Pro costs €49 per year. This unlocks unlimited tabs, profiles, and integrations, plus advanced features like interactive rebase, custom themes, customizable keyboard shortcuts, Gitflow, Worktrees, Git LFS, GPG signing, and more.

What platforms does GitSquid support?

GitSquid runs on macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows 10/11, and Linux (distributed as an AppImage).

How does GitSquid compare to GitKraken?

GitSquid offers similar features to GitKraken at half the price (€49/year vs $99/year). Unlike GitKraken, GitSquid does not require an account, collects no telemetry, and offers a genuinely usable free tier with private repository support.

Does GitSquid require an account?

No. You can download and use GitSquid without creating any account. If you purchase a Pro license, you receive a license key by email — no account needed.

Does GitSquid collect any data or telemetry?

No. GitSquid collects zero telemetry, analytics, or usage data. The only network requests the app makes are to verify your Pro license key and check for updates.

What Git providers does GitSquid integrate with?

GitSquid integrates with GitHub, GitLab, and BitBucket. You can clone repositories, manage pull requests, review code, create and manage issues, and push/pull with authentication — all from within the app.

Does GitSquid support merge conflict resolution?

Yes. GitSquid includes a full 3-way merge editor that shows Base, Ours, and Theirs versions side by side. You can resolve conflicts block by block and edit the final result in a code editor with syntax highlighting.

Does GitSquid support interactive rebase?

Yes (Pro feature). GitSquid has a visual interactive rebase editor where you can drag and drop commits to reorder them, and set per-commit actions: pick, squash, fixup, drop, reword, or edit.

Can I customize the theme?

Yes (Pro feature). GitSquid includes 6 built-in themes: Dark, Light, Midnight, Solarized Dark, Dracula, and Nord. You can also create your own custom themes with a color picker editor and live preview.

What languages is GitSquid available in?

GitSquid is available in 10 languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Chinese.

How do I activate a Pro license?

After purchasing, you receive a license key by email. Open GitSquid, go to Settings → License, paste your key, and click Activate.

Can I use GitSquid with private repositories?

Yes, even on the free tier. There is no restriction on private repositories in any plan.

Is GitSquid open source?

No. GitSquid is a proprietary, closed-source application developed by GT-ITECH.
